I thought I’d give everyone a quick update on what apps I’ve started, and what the future of them looks like.
Over the weekend my cousin came over, and we quickly thought up a couple apps and spent 30 minutes thinking them over and designing a GUI for a few.
- iTrickz - This app would randomly generate the name of a color, but the text color of that label would be other than the name itself. It would choose from 5 colors, and you’d have to tap the button that is associated with the color’s text. The plan was to make the app free, but ad-supported.
- Currency Converter Pro - This app would have limited, but simple functionality… atleast to start with. You would be able to enter in a starting amount in USD (US Dollars $), select an exchange rate in the form of a currency (ex: EUR, GBP, CAD) and the exchanged value would be copied into a text field below when the “Convert Now” button was tapped. The plan was to make the app cost 99c, with no ads.
- iCalorie (Burned) Edition - The point of this app is to calculate the amount of calories burned within 30 minutes due to common activities. You would simply choose the activity (picker view) and your weight (picker view/text field), and click the “Calculate” button. The amount of calories would instantaneously be updated.
- Time Until … - The point of this app is to display the time until (format: months:days:hours:minutes:seconds, if not needed, won’t be displayed) whatever event is selected. We had a couple ideas for this app including select from calendar, choose from holidays, set custom, ect. It would be the all-in-one countdown app!
I am planning on uploading any screenshots I have for these apps later today, or whenever I get some time.
If you think any of those apps are a good idea, PLEASE post comments!
Thanks!

- A paid, ad-free alternative to TipCalc Free was named TipCalc Pro.
- Background image added to TipCalc Pro and will be added as an update to TC Free IF TC Pro is added to the App Store.
That’s all for now!

I’m really amazed at how quickly MY apps are getting approved by Apple. I’ve heard that it usually takes between 7-14 days, but mine are getting approved in under 3-4 days. Well, go check it out!

Palm Pre
Hey.
So I charged up my Pre after I got home and since (I got it to roughly 80%), I’ve been satisfied. I sent around 15 text messages, downloaded 2 apps, changed a few settings, used the web for about an hour, setup a twitter account (registered) + set it up with a client, and made a few calls totaling to roughly 15 minutes.
(*These stats aren’t 100% accurate of course!)
That ran me down to the 58% I have right now. It’s been around 5 hours in general, so I’m pretty happy. Around 20% for decent usage and 5 hours? No worries here…
Oh, so why was this fixed? I’d have to say it was the webOS 1.04 update that I applied right after unplugging it from the charger. I was this close to getting a new phone from Sprint, but I guess I will anyways cause the screen has been wobbly and I’ve only made it worse by “checking” it’s wobble.
Bottom line…. the Palm Pre is definitely the best phone out on the market at this point and time. This is simply my opinion, so don’t go all fan-boy on me haha.
Alright, have a good one! I’ll add pictures and a general review tomorrow hopefully!

Palm Pre
Hey.
Just thought I’d let you all know that yesterday, I went to my local sprint store and managed to pick up a Palm Pre. It’s nice indeed, and really the only thing that could be improved… is the battery life. I’ve had it for about 20 hours now and I’m not impressed with the battery life at all. I plugged it out of the charger around 7:15AM and by 1pm, it was around 10%.
Within that time frame, the phone was off for about 2 hours. I exchanged about 15 text messages, used the music player for a few minutes, had email set to grab every 30 minutes or so, and used the web for roughly 30 minutes (the app for open, not being used for most of the time), and took 4-7 pictures…. oh yeah, I didn’t do any of that at the same time (multi-tasking), only one card was open at once.
I was planning on going to the Sprint Store and getting a replacement phone, but that’s not happening today. I’ll wait a day and look over some tips on the web to keep my battery life in place.
Besides that, I absolutely love this phone… definitely better than the iPhone. I was with a friend who had the iPhone and I used it alongside my phone for quite a while, trust me.
But the main part, this post was only made to let you all know that this means I’m going to all start WebOS (Pre) development… so iPhone dev may slow down.

iPhone SDK Tutorials
Here’s that tutorial I promised everyone. It shows you step-by-step how to create an iPhone app that says “Hello World” at the top, copies text field 1 to text field 2, dismisses the keyboard, and even unhides an image all when the “Greet” button is tapped. Watch the video below to learn how! P.S. Source code can be found below.
The video has been moved to iPhoneDevCentral.org to save bandwidth and allow more people to learn!
